Also please note (as I forgot to do...) that if you're using Firefox...MSN doesn't like to download through Firefox and it may not be AVG's fault at all (I also have AVG...and Firefox).

You got complicated problem.

There are three things, 1) to delete Norton if you have backup or CD 2) delete Mcafee(I never like it) no one can delete it. 3) Restore system for this you should start computer if you could.

Click on Start/Program/Accessories/System Tool/System Restore. Some time by restoring system problem could be solved.

But if you want to start in safe mode and you have some PC knowledge then do it. If you still want to proceed then start PC

as screen appears if you have maker logo or any other keep clicking F8 Key on screen you will see messages, if you are using windows then click on in windows mode.

If there isn't any virus then pc will start.

You should never run two anti-virus programs. They may conflict with each other ...well you see what happens. Try booting your pc in "safe" mode and remove the McAfee.
You already know the problem, geeeeeezzzzzzzzz !!! Boot into safe mode and get rid of one of those virus programs. Virus softwares just don't play well together....

possibly version conflict or a older version of your norton..
i assume you are running this on a single computer. if you install programs like that, you usually have to type in a code so it can only be installed once, on one computer. call them and explain your situation, and they should help you out.
When you uninstall Nortons, some registry keys get left behind and it stops you installing Nortons. Go to www.symantec.com and download and run their free removal tool. The you should be able to reinstall it without any problems.

I have a Toshiba laptop that I have owned for a year now. It never gave me much of a problem about crashing and freezing until I purchased and downloaded AVG antivirus and Spyware doctor. It found a bunch of viral infections and got rid of them.

Your Operating System (XP) and your Ram allow for you to run both applications. What version of AVG did you purchase? I'm an authorized reseller of AVG and I find with AVG 7.5 or 8.0 Security Suite installed, my clients systems they do not require other security software unless they run Internet Explorer as their preferred browser, then I highly recommend Spybot Search and Destroy it's free. Depending on the version of AVG you purchased it could be conflicting with Spyware Doc as they are tryin to do the same thing in regards to looking for spyware, adware and the like.

Spyware Doctor is always a concern as it cleans the systems registry which is a bad thing. The system registry should only be massaged by professionals, one incorrect entry, change or deletion, your PC is now a paper weight.

So basically the crapware you installed to deal with spyware is malware itself... which is a common problem with people who take advice from non-techs on these boards.

Get yourself a proper security suite from a reliable vendor and this will not happen to you again. Uninstall all of the crapware on your computer and reboot.

You can find out more about the Zlob trojan that you are infected with from one of those reliable vendors I mentioned.. Symantec:

The removal instructions will be:

Disable System Restore (Windows Me/XP).

Update the virus definitions. (of your reliable security suite)

I reccomend AdAware. Make sure you update the definitions too
Download install and update Spyware Doctor Starter Edition. Disconnect your pc from the net and run the program. As a backup scan, reconnect to the net and do a free online scan with Trend Micro Housecall and it will find and remove any malware left.

I second what Ciarrocchi said. Simply clearing your Java cache will usually delete any Java type virus. While you are in your Java console you should check for updates also, you Java may be way out of date. And as the other person suggested, go to Windows Update and update Windows when you are done with the above.

It looks like things got pretty hosed up. There's no real easy way out of this mess short of reinstalling Windows. What I'd do is pull her hard drive and set it up as a slave drive on an other computer. This way you can retrievel all the important stuff.

if you can't get anything to work go out and buy another hard drive. you don't have to get an expensive one if you don't want.

then make the new hard drive the master and the other a slave.

install operating system. then you can recover all data on the other hard drive. this is a last resort and it will work.

or, if you know someone with a computer that you can install that hard drive onto and set it as a slave you can get all your important data %26 pics and burn it to some dvd's or if you have a memory stick or something like that.
since you dont know the admin password, you can either buy the program that by passes it but for a one time use kinda a waste. if you have an usb external CD, DVD or HDD, open the case and plug the hdd into it and accesss the data on another working computer; You need to do a format and reinstall without the password or that program, I personally wouldn't waste the money on the program when you can buy an external case and access the data that way for less than the cost of the program
There are utilityes free on the net that will allow you to blank any password on the system. Any Windows password that is. Google windows password hack and you should find an ISO or two. Be careful doing this.
Safe mode? If that works, backup and reinstall...

After downloading Maple Story and Norton Antivirus, my PC automatically rebooted without any warning message. I'm now so pissed off seeing that everything looks like I'm using Windows 95. I'm still trying to bring back the XP style of buttons and windows but the display properties found in the Control Panel removed the option of modifying it to XP style.

have you tried right-clicking an empty space on your desktop, and going to properties?

if "properties" isn't available as a menu option, try reinstalling windows from an actual OS cd, and not a restore disc.

First, before removing IE7, do you have any of those "helpful" toolbars installed on your browser? If so, then remove those.

Also, IE7 has an option to run with no add-ons. You can get this by going to your Start Menu -%26gt; Programs -%26gt; Accessories -%26gt; System Tools. Try running that to see if it gives you the same problems.

Only run one anti-virus program at a time.

No, using two antiviruses or firewalls at a time is unsafe for your computer(this is not true in case of anti-spywares). I am 99% sure that it is no security issue. About 60% of the people who have downloaded IE 7 are experiencing such weird things. So, the best solution would be to uninstall it from Start %26gt; Control Panel %26gt; Add/Remove Programs. By this, IE will downgraded automatically to your previous version, i.e., IE 6. You can make IE 6 a bit IE 7-like, by using the Yahoo toolbar. It enables tabbed browsing in IE 6!
Multitudes of people who downloaded IE7 have had problems...tho yours sound even worse. I am no expert, but what I and many others did was UNINSTALL the IE 7 and use IE6...it will still be there. Even Yahoo (which PUSHES IE7) has acknowledged that IE7 has serious problems.

There are lots of causes for a slow computer. If she doesn't have an antivirus, she probably doesn't have a firewall, or antispyware programs. IF she doesn't have any of these, then it's very likely her browser is hijacked by spyware or malware.

If this is the case, then it is most likely the reason she has a slow computer and cant surf the internet. If she uses Internet Explorer, then it is twice as likely it is hijacked. Try running antivirus antispyware programs on her comp and clean out the infections. good luck..

I have seen what teens use for wallpaper and screensavers. It's a wonder they can navigate at all. Graphics consume memory as they run in the background. I'll bet you will notice a difference just by losing the wallpaper and setting the screensaver to blank or none.

Guess I caught a trojan while downloading a file. I have Avast! Antivirus, but my computer keeps telling me I have a system error, and that I should download another antivirus system to remove the problem. Of course I did, and (of course) I need to register with them for them to remove the Trojan.

Careful with some of that advice you already have been given. Not all programs will work with Windows 98.

I use Spybot and Ad Aware (both for spyware protection) and AVG Free (antivirus) on a Windows ME machine. All are free for personal use.

3Mb on email is very large when you are on dialup... it's really inconsiderate to send emails that large to your friends on dialup.

Ask them before you send them stuff like that. Or set up an ftp server and send them a link instead so they can download it *when they want*.

Plus if they've got a mailbox size limit 3Mb is tying up a lot of their email space.

Not sure if you are on dial up - in this case it could quite well be that the program is far too large to download properly.

Did you read system requirements before you downloaded, it may be you have downloaded the wrong version for your computer.

Suggest go back to Google Earth and read again re installation and troubleshooting tips. They must have a FAQ section.

Recommend uninstall and reinstall after having read the installation procedure again.

There are some major issues here.

First, if it is going for 350, it is going awfully cheap. Almost too good to be true.

Second, there is no such thing as a Dual Core Intel Celeron. Intel does not make such a processor.

Third, it has onboard Intel graphics which will not be sufficient to play decent games.

It sounds to me like it might be a bit of a scam... considering they don't even know what processor is installed in it.

WinAntiVirus popups are driving me crazy!!?

For the last couple of weeks, that stupid popup window keeps coming in and trying to download some antivirus program on my hard drive. It's been unsuccessful, and I do have popups blocked, but does anyone know how to stop it from happening besides blocking my popups? It's using my old Internet Explorer window, rather than my SBC browser too, but I would rather not "uninstall" or delete Internet Explorer. Does anyone have a solution to this other than removal of IE? THANKS!!

Have downloaded various Antivirus/spy/firewall programs have have ditched Norton. Have run a very lengthy scan using AVAST (over 4 hrs!!!!)and have detected a couple of Trojans already.

Checking Windows task Manager informs me that my CPU is at 100% .....that cant be right can it??

The culprits seem to be zonealarm..(zlcliener.exe and vsmon.exe) using a good 90% on their own. When I tried to run spybot, this wantes to use 98% on its own and everything virtually stopped!!!

The owner of Spybot Search %26 Destroy is a friend of mine out of Germany. The entire program was built at their university with student help. Greetings, you have spyware on your machine and there could be an entry in your registry so even if you remove the files it left, it might pop up again and again until it's all cleaned out. I would recommend adding 2 more spyware programs as 1 is not good enough. I have mcafee too and I also have spybot search and destroy and avg antispy. Load them both, run them and remove the junk, then keep them up to date and run the scans at least once a week or more. I would also recommend winpatrol as it alerts you to any changes in your computer and you can see what starts up and is running on your machine and disable it or remove it.

Okay so one day my computer was working fine. Then when i inserted a CD which contained pictures and some other stuff, My computer started getting slow and lagging. I ran some scans but nothing came up. The computer then started restarting on its own, giving me no error message and no Blue Screen. It also restarts when i try to look for which .exe process can be a virus online.(e.g when i search smss.exe or lsass.exe on websites)

If you already have an account, you shouldn't need to install there software. If you've got a router, it should be able to handle the connection to the DSL Modem.

If you don't have an account, then you may need to install there software to create an account.

Yes. I am having a crisis. My computer is infected with spyware...asking to take care of spyware. Great, right? Anyway, I keep getting a bubble from my task bar asking me to download Windows antivirus, and it pops back up as soon as I exit it. I've run Windows Defender and it didn't work, and AVG has been picking something up but I don't think it can fix it. I don't know why AVG would find spyware, but whatever. I re-downloaded AOL Safety and Security, but it won't work anymore. I thought 'well, there's no reason for me to have it waste MB if it wont work.' So I went to delete it from the programs and access list, and it said there were restrictions on this area. I only have this account on my laptop, and I've never had this problem before. On April 4, my computer automatically downloaded Microsoft patch KB925902. I stated getting error messages about DLL user 32.dll. They told me that the vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted to provide a new one. The vendor is Microsoft as I have not downloaded anything in a long time and keep antivirus and spyware cleaned out. The only way I can correc the problem is to 'delete' the patch. However, the automatic update system promptly puts it in again and the circus starts all over again. I have since deactivated the automatic download of patches. Any way I can keep that darn patch from downloading automatically?

ok here's the problem i downloaded kaspersky antivirus program from mininova.com and that expired a couple of days ago. so then i went back to mininova and downloaded the same antivirus but byb another person. and that person is apparently a ***** cuz once i installed it on my computer it didn't let me see a complete url page. right then i knew it was the newly installed anti-virus. so tried uninstalling it with he windows unintaller and revo unistaller. no use. always showed up errorr errorr!!!! so then i tried system retoring it a month ago on my windows xp operating system. that made it worst! the program and not the file that i used to install kaspersky was copying its own files again and again until theres no hard drive space its still doing that now at this second!!!. and i no its no the file cuz i deleted it. so then i found all those damn files and deleted them but it just kept on doing it agin. so i ran spybot and adaware and they mad the so called kaspersky stop coying itself

Hi, typically, this means your boot sector has been corrupted or windows is completely screwed up. You have to reinstall windows. (it is possible your hard drive has died)

You need to keep in mind that anything on your laptop is gone unless you have someone recover it for you..... prior to reinstalling windows. For instance, you can put your hardrive into an external container that will let you recover anything you cant live without like pictures and such.

ive had this problem with my old laptop. and i re-fragmented it and it was fine. the only problem is you lose everything if you dont have a backup disk/harddrive.

I have a terrible problem. Some spyware has got into my computer. Inspite of putting google pop up blocker on high, pop ups still come on.

One pop up is on online gambling, another popup is a site called pcturbo.com which keeps interfering with any page that I am looking at, another is on window optimisation or some such thing. I am using Internet explorer.

I tried cleaning my PC with CCleaner and run adaware also regularly. But both are not effective. Since my mcfee expired I downloaded AVG antivirus about a week back. I am not sure if these pop ups came along with that.

Please let me know how I can block these irritating pop ups. Thanks in advance for your help.

AEB ... I tried to see whether that URL you provided was in my Site Advisor's database of bad web sites. However, I didn't get any conclusive info on it.

In the future, I strongly recommend going to a legitimate web site for clean copies of downloadable software. One of my favorites is "www.cnet.com". There are many others, by the way, but as you can see, if the site you went to was really the cause, you've already seen what the results can be.

By the way ... You didn't tell us much about the error that occurs when you try to start up your laptop. I could be wrong, but I suspect that if you need your files badly enough, they may be recoverable. However, you're going to need someone with more expertise to: (1) diagnose the problem, (2) determine whether your system is recoverable, and (3) make the necessary fix. You'd be surprised ...
