Block unwanted popups?

I have a terrible problem. Some spyware has got into my computer. Inspite of putting google pop up blocker on high, pop ups still come on.

One pop up is on online gambling, another popup is a site called pcturbo.com which keeps interfering with any page that I am looking at, another is on window optimisation or some such thing. I am using Internet explorer.

I tried cleaning my PC with CCleaner and run adaware also regularly. But both are not effective. Since my mcfee expired I downloaded AVG antivirus about a week back. I am not sure if these pop ups came along with that.

Please let me know how I can block these irritating pop ups. Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards

Jane

Your PC is infected with adware. Use these scans to remove it. Both are free and safe to use.

Spybot - Search %26 Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S%26D is free.
