Windows Vista HP TEMP and TMP?

Okay well my laptop is fairly new. Only 2 weeks. My Norton AntiVirus wouldn't download some update so it stopped working. I wrote the Norton people and they told me to change the TEMP and TMP to the c:\windows\temp. However, when i did that my HP advisor stopped working. I thought about just restoring the computer from a checkpoint but no matter what checkpoint i use, it says that there was a problem that occurred and it won't restore. PLEASE HELP!! How can I fix my HP advisor and system restore so it works?

You'll probably have to bite the bullet and call HP. It's always a major pain calling support but eventually they can get it fixed for you.

This is typical of Norton, nothing is ever their fault. And they will tell you anything to get rid of your problem. Like one occasion where people were unable to send emails, and their answer was to turn off their virus protection to send mail. Of course everyone collected mail each time they sent, and all got viruses. Under any Windows system you can NOT change system settings without destroying some or even all of the system. You would need to spend hours correcting the registry entries. If you remember the original settings change them back. If not you may need to do a complete re-install to recover this. Then uninstall and dump Norton, use a real anti-virus like AVG free from http://free.grisoft.com, and get their free anti-spyware too. Make sure the Windows firewall is turned on as Norton usually disables it.
